A Safe Space to Begin Healing
Adult Counselling & Therapy Services

What is Counselling?
Counselling is a talking therapy where you meet with a dedicated counsellor, once a week, in a safe, confidential space to discuss any problems or difficulties you may have encountered.

Our counselling service offers a non-judgemental and accepting space where we will do our best to help you feel heard and understood. We will accept and respect your feelings and help you navigate some of the difficulties you are experiencing.

Your counsellor will use each session to focus on whatever feels most meaningful and helpful for you at that time. Sessions are client-led, which means you decide what feels important to bring, explore, or make sense of. Your counsellor will work alongside you, listening, reflecting, and gently guiding the process so that the therapy follows your pace, your needs, and your goals.
There is no pressure to talk about anything before you’re ready; instead, the work evolves naturally based on what you choose to share and what feels most supportive for you.

Additionally, and what sets our counsellors apart from others, is they all are all highly skilled and highly trained in working with neurodivergent clients, never with the aim of "fixing" (because we aren't broken) but to support them on a journey of self acceptance and living an authentic life.
“I have attended some counselling sessions since my mum passed away in September 2021 and can honestly say it has been excellent.” – Karen

Approach
Integrative, Client-lead You decide what you want to talk about
You will have planned, regular sessions lasting approximately 50 minutes, generally on a weekly basis.

Our therapists are trained in many modalities, working from either an integrative or contemporary, pluralistic approach, meaning they draw on a range of therapeutic models to suit your individual needs. The focus is always on building a trusting relationship where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make positive changes at your own pace.

Counselling is suitable for anyone who wants space to talk, reflect, and gain insight into their experiences. We work with both adults and young people, offering a supportive environment that respects neurodiversity, mental health challenges, and personal circumstances. Sessions can be adapted to meet communication or sensory needs.
What Can I Expect As I Progress?
Many people notice changes gradually as they begin to feel more self-aware and develop new coping strategies. Your therapist will regularly check in with you to review your progress and ensure the sessions continue to meet your needs. You can also end counselling at any time, and your therapist will support you in planning this in a way that feels safe and complete.
Commitment and Collaboration

Counselling is a collaborative process. The more open and consistent you can be, the more you’re likely to benefit from the experience. Your therapist will walk alongside you, not as an expert telling you what to do or offering advice, but as a support system, helping you to find your own way forward.

What's the first counselling session like?
Every therapist has their own way of beginning therapy. They may start by talking about what will happen in therapy or they may begin straightaway by asking what has brought you to therapy. Every first session will include the following:

-
Introduction
-
Confidentiality
-
Assessment
-
Practical Details
Introduction
Your therapist should spend a few minutes introducing themselves. Don't be scared to ask them about their qualifications, who they are registered with, their insurance and if they have any specialist training. All our therapists will be more than happy to share this information with you. Some of our therapists, like doctors, are doing on the job training. Even therapists who have been trained for many years go through periods of retraining/upskilling every year.
Confidentiality
Your therapist will explain about confidentiality and the limitations of it. How everything is private and confidential between you and the therapist unless you tell them that you are being harmed or someone you know is being harmed. Then we will work together to try and keep everyone safe. Â Therapists will usually take notes or records of their sessions in some way for their own professional use such as external supervision. They should tell you how they will do this. Sometimes a therapist may ask for your permission to audio record your session. They will always ask your permission to do this and you have the right to refuse.
Assessment
Your therapist will carry out a systemic assessment, asking questions about your family, background and other historical information to allow us to get a better picture of how life is for you. They may ask you to complete some forms, or go through information they have received about you, particularly if your referral was from a 3rd party. They may just ask you to "tell your story". Whatever format the assessment takes, you should feel you can tell the therapist about the issues that brought you to counselling
Practical Details
Your therapist should discuss with you the number and frequency of sessions you will have, and they should also explain what happens if you miss a session or are away on holiday.
